Brits might have enjoyed a sunny week so far but that’s all set to change for some as the weekend brings rain and thunderstorms.
On Wednesday (May 15) the Scottish highlands saw temperatures soar to mid-20s, with that figure expected to sit around 19C in Glasgow and 16C in London today.
But as the weekend draws in, experts at the Met Office think northwest Scotland and Northern Ireland are in for a thorough drenching, with parts of England and Wales set for rain too.

According to The Mirror, Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said: “Sunny skies greet us as we start Thursday, in much of the UK another fine day in store, but there are subtle differences and a slow change on the way.
“Some patchy cloud for the central belts as we start off Thursday as well as Northern Ireland but for much of England and Wales, clear skies.”
He continued: “In the countryside temperatures in the low single figures so a fresh if not chilly start to the day in many places.”
Speaking further, Aidan said an initial spell of rain will move west across parts of England and Wales on Friday (May 17), followed by showers and cloud cover.

Compared with recent days, he explained, England, Wales and the south east of Scotland will be much more cloudy, with intermittent sunshine and rain.
According to Met Office meteorologists, weather from Monday will be a lot more temperamental, potentially bringing thunderstorms and longer spells of showers in southern England.
Scotland is expected to be warmer than England next week by as much as 8C.

Speaking to The Sun, meteorologist Craig Snell said he expects “very dry weather” and “plenty of sun” today and Friday, when temperatures will start to “settle down”.
The Met Office said on its website that conditions tonight will be “largely dry, but mist and fog patches are possible in eastern Scotland and northern England”
The weather service added: “Showery rain will then move westwards across the southern half of the UK.”
