Emmerdale viewers appalled by ‘brutal’ scenes

An act of violence left some watchers in shock...

Emmerdale fans were shocked last night when Debbie Dingle became involved in a violent exchange.

ITV viewers who tuned into the soap’s double bill (Tuesday 22 May) got more than they bargained for when the petite brunette confronted drug dealer Connor…

And came off the worse for wear.

Soap fans know that Ross is working for Connor as a way to find Simon McManus, the man responsible for his acid attack.

But Debbie couldn’t help getting involved and endangering Ross and herself, too.

Returning the drugs to Connor, Debbie couldn’t resist launching a verbal attack on the dodgy villain after he refused to give Ross any info on Simon.

Debbie blasted: “You get off on this, don’t you? These pathetic little games.

“It must be pretty depressing knowing a girl will only sleep with you if she’s drugged, paid or terrified.”

The vile criminal, not very happy with this description of himself, reacted by punching Debbie – HARD – in the face!

Ross and Debbie were both stunned as Connor and his henchman sped off into the distance proud of what they had done.

And fans were livid.

Some believed the “brutal” scenes shouldn’t have been aired before the watershed, while others felt unusual sympathy for Debbie Dingle – a character they usually love to hate.

“That was brutal”, said one, while another wrote: “Finding it so hard to watch.”

One sympathetic viewer said: “Poor Debbie, she didn’t deserve that.”

A third commented: “A man hitting a female before 9pm tut tut.. How come nobody said violence is acceptable whoever it is..”

Debbie’s week is about to get a whole lot worse, too.

This Thursday, in a dramatic double bill, Ross will point a gun at Joe Tate’s head after discovering he paid off Simon.

Not realising Joe is protecting Debbie, Ross becomes determined to exact revenge. And, after a nailbiting encounter, we know at least one of the characters is shot…
