Viewers criticise Boots’ ‘horrible’ and ‘appalling’ Christmas advert

The ad has divided shoppers

With Halloween done and Christmas right around the corner, high street shops have been debuting their highly anticipated festive ads – but one of them hasn’t gone down so well.

On Friday (08.11.19), retailer Boots released its Gift Like You Get Them ad, which aims to help shoppers snap up goods for those hard-to-buy-for people with the help of its new in-store curated gift edits called ‘Bootiques’.

It opens with a village hall scene where Linda and Neil discuss how “problematic” it can be to buy for your partner.

It then discusses others that can be tricky to buy for, including those into their fitness, beauty lovers and vegans. And from there, Boots introduces it’s solution – the brand new Bootiques.

However, while many praised the ad, some festive fans were left slightly disappointed.

“Farrr too based on the commercial side of Christmas. Give me a nativity play, family sat round the table, something to laugh or cry at,” one tweeted.

A second shared, “I simply hate this, just horrible! Sorry,” while a third wrote, “Congratulations! Worst Christmas ad ever”.

And another tweeted: “That advert is appalling, there is no Christmas feel about that.”

Of course, plenty of others said they enjoyed it, with someone else commenting, “Love this – brings a smile to your face and can’t wait to shop at the sleep Bootique!”

Others said the Bootique idea will be a great help for them when picking out presents this Christmas.

“Christmas has just become that much easier – thanks Boots,” said another.

And, “Christmas is in the air!! Loving the Vegan Bootique – thanks @BootsUK.”

ED! contacted Boots for comment.
