Angela Scanlon is still going strong on Strictly Come Dancing as she performs with Carlos Gu.
This weekend (October 28), the pair will be performing a Paso Doble to Black swan SWAN lake by District 78 for the show’s Halloween special.
But what is she famous for? Is she married? And does she have kids? Here’s everything you need to know about Angela Scanlon.
Where is Angela Scanlon from?
Born in Ratoath, County Meath, Ireland on December 29, 1983, Angela was raised by her mum and dad, and she has three sisters.
She studied business at Uni, and then after graduating, she traveled all over the globe. We’re talking six months in New York, Australia, and even South East Asia.
Despite living in the UK, Angela prides herself on being “Irish through and through.” She told Irish Times: “I feel very protective of that part of my identity – whether it’s my accent or whatever it is.”
When she returned to Ireland, the fashion-savy beauty planned to open her own clothes shop. She eventually turned into a stylist and journalist, writing for the likes of Vogue, Grazia, and The Sunday Times. But it seemed life would have other plans for Angela.
What is Angela Scanlon famous for?
Making the leap into telly, Angela’s first gig was on RTE as a reporter / presenter on The Movie Show in the early 2010s. Unfortunately, because she “just kept getting sacked” – as she told RSVP magazine, she moved to the UK from Ireland.
She told the publication: “Do you know what, I never really made a conscious decision to leave Ireland. It kind of happened accidentally. If I had enough work at the time, I probably would have never left.”
In 2015, her BBC on-screen career began on the smash hit show The Voice UK, doing their online content. Since then, it’s fair to say she’s not stopped since!
What does Angela Scanlon do?
Angela has since become a recognisable face of BBC series The One Show, as well as the 2016 Robot Wars reboot.
Now, she hosts BBC Two’s Your Home Made Perfect, and Your Garden Made Perfect, bringing together her flairs for style and presenting. She was also given her own show which catapulted her into a household name. This made Angles the only woman in the UK and Ireland to have their own Saturday night chat show with Ask Me Anything on RTÉ One.
She released her own book too, a part empowering guide and part memoir called Joyrider. The book is about the importance of bringing gratitude into everyday life.
Is Angela Scanlon married?
It seems Angela doesn’t have to worry about so called ‘Strictly curse.’ For nearly 10 years, she’s been married to business entrepreneur Roy Horgan. The pair tied the knot in 2014 at a gorgeous ceremony in Wicklow.
Although the pair keep their relationship relatively private, Angela did gush over her hubby in a candid Instagram Q&A in 2022. The TV star was asked: “When did you know it was the right time to start a family?”

As Evoke reports, she replied: “Honestly I was always afraid. I had the mad notion that it would end my career and I was terrified that everything I worked on would vanish or be unmanageable. I am very lucky to have a husband who is HANDS ON – who absolutely supports me. It’s hardcore at times and juggling is a lot but I feel so so lucky.”

Four years after they said their “I do’s” the pair welcomed their eldest daughter, Ruby Ellen in February 2017. They then went on to welcome Marnie Fae, their second daughter, in February 2022.
Can Angela Scanlon dance?
After it was confirmed Angela was taking part in Strictly, it didn’t take long for trolls to already brand the show as a “fix.”
This was due to reports that emerged that claimed Angela has performed all over the world with the O’Shea Irish Dance Company. She also apparently worked as pro dancer in the US.
However, after her Strictly reveal, Angela insisted she had never done “any of these dances in her life.” She was referring to the Latin and Ballroom routines she will have to perform.
“I’ve never done any of these dances in my life, bar a drunken jive at a family wedding,” she said. Angela added: “So, it certainly feels like there is room to learn and to really push myself.” She then quipped: “Look, I’m not particularly fit. I’ve no idea how my pelvic floor is going to react to that level of jumping!”
