Emmerdale crowned Best Soap amid cast culling and explosive storylines

There's a promise of a 'high death toll'

| Updated:

ITV soap Emmerdale is riding high, on a crest of a wave at the moment.

It has been crowned Best Soap at the TV Choice Awards, just months after scooping the same accolade at the British Soap Awards.

This doesn’t mean though that the cast is safe from a mass culling.

It has been revealed that some characters in the Yorkshire Dales soap will be killed off in a dramatic and explosive storyline later this year.

Danny Miller, who plays the popular Aaron Livesy in the programme, has teased that there will be many deaths.

He has also said that just because he has been crowned Best Actor at the TV Choice Awards, he doesn’t know whether his character will survive.

Talking to The Sun, he said: “You can expect a huge, explosive and dramatic storyline coming up to Christmas.

“There’s going to be a high death toll – and the rest.

“It’s big but we want to keep you all guessing, it’s going to be a great week.

“There’s always that question that I might get killed off – there’s always different storylines and stuff going on that exposes us to that sort of thing but it depends.”

There has been a number of high profile characters that have been confirmed as leaving Emmerdale.

Fans were upset when Kelvin Fletcher announced that he is quitting the soap after 20 years playing Andy Sugden.

This was quickly followed by Sophie Powles revealing that she would be leaving her role as Holly Barton, only months after she returned from a long absence.

To end a month of exits, it is believed that Bill Ward will be saying goodbye to his James Barton character.

He has played James for the past few years and is thought to be being killed off by the end of the year.

Could this be the dramatic ending to his character that’s been teased? Who else will go out the soap with him?
