It’s not unusual for people in love to have the names or faces of their other halves inked on their person.
But E4’s Tattoo Fixers faced a very special request from Amanda Liberty, for her fiancée is a chandelier.
Amanda, 34, from Leeds, identifies as Objectum Sexual, meaning she is attracted to, and falls in love with, objects.
She proposed to ‘light of her life’ Lumière on Valentine’s Day 2016, after falling in love with her on eBay, and transporting her over from Berlin.
Recalling the proposal, Amanda told the cult show: “I got down on one knee and asked, ‘Would you do me the honour of marrying me?’
“Of course she doesn’t answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’, she’s a chandelier. She gave me positive energy and I pinned her ring on her.
“I’ve fallen in love with her energy more and more every day that goes by. She’s the light of my life.”
Amanda, who is in an open relationship with over 20 chandeliers, first realised she was different to most people in her teens.
“All I know is it makes me so happy,” she says. “It seems to be the way my heart wants to lead me.”
Amanda previously enjoyed a relationship with the Statue of Liberty in New York, and changed her surname by deed poll from Whittaker to Liberty in 2010 as a mark of her love and commitment.
Since her episode of Tattoo Fixers aired, Amanda has tried to explain her attraction to objects to curious viewers.
“I can only try and help people to understand but I realise it’s hard for people,” she says. “I don’t completely understand it myself.
“My chandeliers make me so happy and full of joy.
” I have tried human relationships but it didn’t work for me in the long run because it was peer pressure forcing me to try it out.
“There wasn’t that same spark there and I don’t believe love can be forced.”
Amanda was utterly thrilled with her chandelier tattoo, etched on her inner left forearm by artist Alice Perrin, and she knew Lumière would love it too.
Amanda tells ED!: “I realise that my way of loving and what I’m attracted to is different but what is most important to me in my life is to be happy, rather than living my life how others think I should live it.”
