Women are sharing selfies of their noses as part of a campaign encouraging women to break the ‘big nose beauty taboo’ and reclaim their side profile.
Journalist Radhika Sanghani made a New Year’s resolution to “spread the big nose love” – and it seems the stigma may well be on the way to being broken after #sideprofileselfie went viral on Twitter.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain, she told hosts Kate Garraway and Susanna Reid that society continues to impose beauty standards on ‘stronger-nosed women’ even though the likes of spotty skin, stretch marks, cellulite and body hair have all been reclaimed.
“I think it is such a big thing,” she said.
“When you’re growing up and watching movies with beautiful leading actresses – none of them never have a big nose. Open a glossy magazine and see models in there – again, no big noses.
“So personally, growing, up, I just assumed I could never be classified as ‘beautiful’.”

Radhika, 27, also noted in an article how noses are “hidden” in “subtle head tilts and awkward poses” in selfies, but hoped posting side-profile photos on social media would help “conquering your side-profile fears and owning your looks”.
She added: “It’s also a really powerful way to inspire those who can’t yet imagine being brave enough to post a #sideprofileselfie.”
Radhika, who turn down her mother’s offer to pay for a nose job aged 17, admitted: “I was terrified to do it myself. In my 27 years, I’ve never willing posed to the side. But my #sideprofileselfie honestly helped me to love my nose.
“Yes, I look nothing like Gigi Hadid, but I don’t care. My nose is mine, and I’m determined to love it just as it is.

However, it isn’t just women sharing their #sideprofileselfie – Radhika has been inundated with snaps from men, too.
Broke my nose when I was 9 y/o and never had any confidence issues with it. Started high school got called beaky, Pinocchio etc and it affected my confidence. In the age of selfies, it takes me a while until I get a flattering angle where my nose doesn’t look huge. pic.twitter.com/vutwejVC4S

Reflecting on the initial reaction for the campaign, Radhika noted: “It’s honestly amazing. I never expected that my big nose campaign would have such an overwhelmingly positive reaction.”
