An American woman has revealed how she was ‘fat-shamed’ at her husband’s funeral.

Telling her shocking story on the Love What Matters website, the woman – who only wants to be known as Toni – described how a fellow mourner whispered the snide comment as her husband’s coffin was being lowered into the ground.

Toni’s husband was involved in a motorcycle accident only days before.

Despite being rushed to hospital, he tragically died from head injuries.

Toni was understandably devastated at her loss but was made to endure more at his funeral.

“Just when they were about to put him in the ground, that’s when I heard it,” she said.

Toni wore a knee-length, black dress to the funeral.

But that wasn’t enough for one of the mourners.

“They’re putting her husband in the ground. You’d think she would’ve lost a few more pounds and worn a cuter dress,” the other woman said.

Toni, who admitted she had put on two-and-a-half stone after her husband’s death – said: “I was fat-shamed at my husband’s funeral. A place I thought would be a safe zone.”

Shocked and upset, Toni turned to her sister, who had also heard the insult.

She suggested that they both go to a burger restaurant to “eat away her grief”.

Toni finished her story by saying: “To the woman who fat-shamed me, cheers. I ate five burgers in your name.”
