YouTube star PewDiePie apologises over Demi Lovato ‘joke’

Singer suffered drug overdose earlier this week

While the rest of us flocked to send love and well wishes to Demi Lovato following the drug overdose that nearly killed her, others have been less kind.

Fans of the singer have been left horrified by a ‘joke’ being spread around social media and forced an apology from famous YouTuber, PewDiePie, who shared it.

The YouTuber, whose real name is Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg deleted the meme, which shows Demi buying heroin, after a few hours.

In the cartoon-drawn image, Demi is saying: “Mom can you give me money for burger”.

Her mother says: “To buy burger?” to which the singer replies: “Yeeees”.

Fans reacted furiously telling him: “It’s never okay to joke about drug addiction and it’s never okay to joke about someone almost dying.”

The YouTube star, who has 15.7 million followers, and whose videos have been viewed over 18,000,000,000 times, took to Twitter to apologise.

He wrote: “Deleted meme. I didnt mean anything with it and I didnt fully know about the situation. I realize now it was insensitive, sorry!”

Many accepted his apology, but others were less impressed.

One wrote: “I’m not really a Demi fan, but that was disgusting. I do think that people need to realize that she controls her actions but [bleep]. She just almost DIED. She’s many people’s idol and just because you’re irrelevant now, doesn’t mean you act like it’s a joke. Go find a new hobby.”

A representative for Demi, 25, said on Tuesday that the star is now: “Awake and with her family.”

They also rejected any speculation that Demi had taken heroin.

He’s normally known for his pranking on the popular video channel where he has had over 4 million views.

Armed with their filming equipment, they even showed how they climbed on set, saying: “Guys we’re on the set of EastEnders right now, it’s so funny.”
