Meghan Markle gives up another aspect of her old life ahead of royal wedding

Her regal makeover continues

| Updated:

In May, Meghan Markle will become a member of the royal family when she marries Prince Harry.

Her high profile relationship has meant she’s had to move to England leaving family, friends and one of her beloved dogs behind, and she’s had to give up her job as an actress on Suits.

Now the 36-year-old has given up something else of her old life after closing down all her social media accounts.

Meghan used to be a frequent user of Instagram sharing pictures with her 1.9million followers, and she was also on Twitter where she’d amassed more than 350,000 followers.

She once even had her own lifestyle website where she shared her tips on the best restaurants and health and fitness trends.

The website, called The Tig, was shutdown in April after it came to light that she was dating Prince Harry as it was being used as a source to create more stories on Meghan.

Now she’s also taken the decision to close her social media accounts, in line with other members of the royal family who don’t share any personal information online – and certainly don’t post selfies.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, The Queen and Prince Charles all have a social media presence, but their accounts are run by staff and only used to give updates on their official appearances or public statements.

Kensington Palace issued a statement after Meghan closed her accounts explaining: “Ms. Markle is grateful to everyone who has followed her social media accounts over the years, however as she has not used them for some time, she has taken the decision to close them.”

Official updates on Meghan will now come via the @kensingtonroyal Twitter account which Tweets about the work of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry and their charity foundation.

It’s likely Meghan will remain in touch with friends and family via social media in some way though by setting up a private account in a different name, which both Princes William and Harry are believed to have done in the past.

Yesterday, Meghan continued with her new role by joining her husband-to-be visiting a community radio station in Brixton.

She showed she’s already embracing Britishness by wearing a jumper from M&S!

Harry and Meghan will marry on 19 May at Windsor Castle – giving up her social media seems like a small price to pay to marry a prince!
