First visit as new patron of the RHS
The Royal Horticultural Society detailed the King and Queen’s visit in the caption. The post described: “The King and Queen visited RHS Chelsea Flower Show, where they toured some of the many gardens and displays on show at the Royal Hospital Chelsea this week.
“Highlights of this year’s show include the RHS No Adults Allowed Garden, designed by children from Sulivan Primary School. The first time a garden designed by children for children has featured.
“His Majesty’s Patronage of The Royal Horticultural Society – which organises the show – was recently announced. Established in 1913, on the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London, the RHS Chelsea Flower Show has become one of the world’s greatest showcases for horticultural excellence, attracting visitors and exhibitors from around the world.”
Monarch given sweet nickname by kids
During the visit, the King and Queen were reportedly given some sweet nicknames by children attending the show. The King received the nickname “King of the Compost”. Camilla, meanwhile, became “Queen of the Bees”.
The names seemed to amuse King Charles. Evidently, he cheerfully agreed “quite right” after receiving a badge.
Meanwhile, Charles recently became Royal Horticultural Society patron. Keith Weed CBE, President of the RHS, said: “As an advocate for the planet and champion for environmental issues, we are thrilled and honoured that His Majesty The King is our Royal Patron.
“We look forward to furthering our work to reach more people of all ages, backgrounds and gardening abilities with the joy of growing plants and gardening to create wonderful gardens, combat the effects of climate change and build a better future for generations to come.”
