In King Charles news, the monarch is set to continue his cancer treatment in the New Year, according to reports.
The King was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and has since undergone treatment, which was later paused as he returned to a string of royal duties.
King Charles’ treatment moving ‘in positive direction’
Palace sources are said to have stated that King Charles’ treatment “has been moving in a positive direction and as a managed condition the treatment cycle will continue into next year”.
The source also claimed that these plans are underpinned with optimism, as demonstrated by the King’s desire to uphold a busy schedule filled with an array of royal engagements – especially amid the festive period.
ED! has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.
In response to reports, well wishes from royal fans have flooded in on social media. One penned: “Encouraging good news from Buckingham Palace. We keep our prayers for your good working health and recovery for King Charles.”
Another said: “Wonderful to see His Majesty looking so well.”
“Hope you are feeling well today King Charles,” gushed another.
In February, the palace shared that the King had been diagnosed with cancer. Since then, the monarch has been very open about facing the disease.
However, it is said that the King chose not to disclose what kind of cancer he is battling so as not to retract from the significance of other forms of the illness.
‘Not surprising’
Dame Laura Lee, chief executive of the cancer support charity Maggie’s, of which Queen Camilla is patron, said of the royal family’s treatment: “It’s very common for treatment to be ongoing for very long periods of time. As is the treatment that the Princess of Wales went through, which is an intense period of treatment over a year, and then it comes to a point where it’s on an end, and she’s on that recovery from some of the impacts of her treatment.
“So we’ve got immunotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery, hormone therapy. There are all sorts of different treatment modalities. And so it’s not surprising at all.”
Buckingham Palace said of the King’s diagnosis in February: “During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.”
They continued: “His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments. During which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.”
Princess Kate’s cancer diagnosis
In March, Princess Kate, announced that she had also been diagnosed with cancer.
The Princess of Wales had undergone abdominal surgery in January, where it was discovered that she had cancer.
She explained to the public at the time: “Tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”
The King was said to be “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did”.
It was also said that he had “remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law”.
In September, the royal family shared that Princess Kate had finished her course of cancer treatment.
