Harry and Meghan blasted for ‘saving the world, one private jet at a time’

Royal couple branded "hypocritical"

Social media has erupted with the news that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly travelled to Ibiza on their first holiday as a family of three via private jet.

The backlash comes after Prince Harry opened up about saving the planet by only having two children with his wife Meghan Markle.

Speaking about climate change, he told the September issue of Vogue, which was guest-edited by his wife: “I’ve always thought: this place is borrowed.

“And, surely, as intelligent as we all are, we should be able to leave something better behind for the next generation.”

He added: “People always say, there is nature, then there is us. But we are part of it. Unless we acknowledge we are part of this cycle, we’re always going to be fighting against it.

“Inevitably, because we’re so good at destruction, we’ll end up winning and nature might end up losing.”

Earlier this summer HRH The Duke of Sussex met with world renowned ethologist Dr. Jane Goodall for an intimate conversation on environment, activism, and the world as they see it. This special sit-down was requested by The Duchess of Sussex, who has long admired Dr. Goodall and wanted to feature her in the September issue of @BritishVogue, which HRH has guest edited. HRH and Dr. Goodall spoke candidly about many topics including the effects of unconscious bias, and the need for people to acknowledge that your upbringing and environment can cause you to be prejudiced without realising it. The Duke described that “[when] you start to peel away all the layers, all the taught behaviour, the learned behaviour, the experienced behaviour, you start to peel all that away – and at the end of the day, we’re all humans.” • Through @RootsandShoots the global youth service program @JaneGoodallInst founded in 1991, she has created and encouraged a global youth community to recognise the power of their individual strength – that each day you live, you can make a difference. Piers Morgan was one of the many to comment on the claims. The Good Morning Britain host tweeted and said the couple were “saving the planet, one private jet at a time”.

Others agreed with the TV star’s sentiment, branding the new parents “hypocritical”.

Others didn’t seem too worried about the royal couple using a private jet.

Friends Of The Earth spokesman Aaron Kiely said: “The Duke of Sussex speaks wonderful and stirring words on the environment and then he flies off on holiday to a European destination in a private jet.”

He added: “He could have taken a train and then a boat. This would have been the perfect opportunity to set an environmental example.”
