Prince William addresses mental health as he watches football with Chelsea’s Frank Lampard

They met up in a pub to watch the England match

Keen football fan Prince William has been snapped alongside Chelsea FC’s head coach Frank Lampard after meeting him in the pub to watch England play last night.

Wills, 37, and 41-year-old Frank, who is married to Loose Women star Christine, enjoyed an evening out together as England took on Czech Republic in a World Cup qualifier.

But the lads weren’t only there to watch the game – there was a much more important issue to discuss, too.

Kensington Palace has today released a series of photos taken during William and Frank’s night out and told how the pair were also working to help break the stigma surrounding mental health and men.

A caption alongside the shots read: “Imagine if we talked about mental health as much as we talk about football.

“Prince William and @ChelseaFC Head Coach @FrankLampard joined football fans to watch England’s match with the Czech Republic ⚽️🍻 and discuss the importance of encouraging more people – particularly men – to feel comfortable talking about their mental health, and feel able to support their friends and families.”

A spokesman for the Palace then added how suicide remains the biggest killer of men under the age of 45, adding that only 41 per cent of males are likely to speak about their feelings.

The caption continued: “The simple act of starting a conversation can often be the start of a more positive future.

“Each of the fans in the pub with The Duke and Frank to watch #CZEENG has been supported by @mindcharity and @calmzone – and were joined by someone who has supported them through difficult times in the past.

“Football is a powerful way for men to have a conversation about how they are feeling, whether it is watching a game with their mates or having a kick around with friends or teammates – through Heads Up we want to help everyone feel as comfortable talking about mental health as they are talking football.”

Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, along with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, are strong campaigners when it comes to raising awareness of mental health.

The foursome came together and voiced a televised advert for the charity Every Mind Matters last week, during a ‘national takeover’.

The three-minute long advert, which also featured cricket legend Freddie Flintoff and telly presenter Davina McCall, aired on Monday October 7 on five TV channels all at the same time.
