In latest news, the royal family have issued a rare joint statement over BBC Two documentary, The Princes and the Press.
The first episode of the two-part special, fronted by Amol Rajan, aired on Monday night (November 22).
The documentary explores Prince William and Prince Harry‘s relationship with the media.
Royal news
The first episode – titled The New Generation – followed the years after the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
It also covered Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement and marriage.
In addition, a number of royals experts from Omid Scobie to Camilla Tominey appeared.
It is overblown and unfounded claims from unnamed sources
Following the episode, a statement from the royal family aired on screen.
It read: “A free, responsible and open press is of vital importance to a healthy democracy.
“However, too often it is overblown and unfounded claims from unnamed sources that are presented as facts and it is disappointing when anyone, including the BBC, gives them credibility.”
How did royal fans respond?
The statement appeared to divide users on Twitter.
One said: “The BBC has been asking for it. And they’ve finally got it. I don’t think anyone trusts the BBC anymore. No one can blame the royal family for having had enough.”
A second wrote: “Perhaps a more dignified response would have been not to say anything.”

Thank you. Not ONE of The British Royals households ever put out a statement to defend Meghan against all the lies but, they have no problem putting out statements for the other royals.#theprincesandthepress
