Queen reportedly confirms that Meghan and Harry ARE engaged

Buckingham Palace staff are sworn to secrecy though

| Updated:

As the world held its breath for a much-anticipated 5pm royal wedding announcement from the Palace yesterday, and eventually succumbed to a long exhale of disappointment, it’s now being reported that behind the scenes, the Windsor-Markle nuptials were confirmed.

But no one is allowed to talk about it.

Except of course the mole who has gossiped to the Daily Star claiming that the pair are engaged and that an official announcement about their forthcoming ‘non-traditional’ wedding will happen after Christmas.

The paper reports a ‘source’ as saying that the Queen ordered staff from both Buck House and Kensington Palace to a meeting to tell them that the pair would be tying the knot, but will not be making a formal statement about it until they had taken steps to ‘sort a few things out’.

These ‘things’ apparently involve looking for a home, rather than trying to decided between Blackpool and Amsterdam for the stag and hen weekends, or whether or not to invite Kate Middleton’s uncle Gary to the engagement party…

The insider told the paper: “They are engaged but they are trying to sort a few things out now, like house hunting for a retreat and other things.

“It will be up to them to decide when to announce it as they want to do it their own way, which Her Majesty agrees with.”

Prince Harry and Meghan have been together since June 2016, and just five months into their relationship, the Royal Family’s communications secretary issued a statement urging the press to ‘pause and reflect’ on stories about them, given the ‘wave of abuse and harassment’ that had been directed towards Meghan once the news they were dating broke.

And as talk of their engagement reached fever pitch, the palace responded to the latest round of rumours by apparently telling Hello! magazine they will not ‘give a running commentary on Harry’s love life’.

However, given that bookmakers have now suspended bets on when the wedding might happen, and there is much talk of Meghan having shipped her dogs over to the UK, we don’t think we’re going to have to wait long for the official nod.

Though of course what we are most desperate to know is just how ‘non-traditional’ the wedding might be… a Pagan handfasting ceremony in the grounds of Windsor Castle, perhaps?
