William and Kate respond after singer admits stealing from Kensington Palace

The royals did see the funny side, though…

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have responded to the news that a famous visitor to Kensington Palace stole a souvenir to take home with them.

Singer Camila Cabello was invited to the palace last month to meet the winners of Radio 1’s Teen Awards.

DJ Greg James also attended and apparently “triple-doggy-dared” the star to steal a pencil from the royals.

Camila duly obliged, putting the pencil into her mother’s handbag.

However, to her horror, Greg told the royals what she had done.

Appearing on Greg’s breakfast show this week, the singer revealed: “My mum was like: ‘No, we have to give it back, we have to give back the pencil,’ and I was like: ‘No, he tripled-doggy-dared me, I have to take the pencil,’ so I still have it.”

He tripled-doggy-dared me, I have to take the pencil.

Camila added: “I’m sorry William and I’m sorry Kate.”

Radio 1’s Teen Heroes of 2019 visited The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Kensington Palace earlier this month, along with chart-topping superstar Camila Cabello and BBC Radio 1 DJs Clara Amfo and Greg James. Now in its tenth year, @bbcradio1’s Teen Awards is the biggest teen event in the pop music calendar and shines a light on some of the UK’s most inspirational teens, seeing them crowned Teen Heroes of 2019 in front of an audience of 14-17 year-olds. This is the fourth consecutive year that Radio 1’s Teen Heroes have been honoured with an invitation to the Palace. The ten finalists were greeted by The Duke and Duchess, who praised them for their inspirational work and their dedication to helping others. #R1TeenAwards

Not content with telling the royals directly, Greg also grassed Camila up on social media as the official Radio 1 account shared a clip from the show.

“@GregJames may have got @Camila_Cabello into a bit of trouble at the Palace,” it read tagging the Cambridges’ official Twitter account.

William and Kate spotted the tweet and quickly sent a cheeky response, replying with the eyes emoji.

Greg revealed that the incident had deflected the royals’ attention from him.

William and Kate asked Greg for a quiet word after he poked fun at Princess Charlotte shaking hands with her teacher on the first day of school.

The story is sure to provide light relief for the royal family in the wake of Prince Andrew’s explosive interview.

Earlier this week it was claimed that William was “involved in the decision to sack him”.
