Following the reports that Angela Griffin is returning to Coronation Street, the actress has posted a telling tweet that suggests the rumours are true.
The 42-year-old actress portrayed hairdresser Fiona Middleton from 1992 to 1998, and she looks set to reprise her role for a “short and sweet” stint.
It’s reported that her comeback will see her ex Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) told he is the father of hairdresser Emma Brooker (Alexandra Mardell), who is expected to turn out to be Fiona’s daughter.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Angela’s return is short and sweet but it has huge implications for Steve.
“She’s back on screens and he will find out that the dates that he was with Fiona tally up to when Emma was born.”
Although neither Coronation Street nor Angela have confirmed the news, Angela posted a telling tweet this morning (Friday June 21).
Hashtagging a number of shows she’s starred in this year, she also added the comment: “2019, what a year. #neverforgetwhereyoucamefrom.”

Steve’s mum Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard) is set to work out the truth about Emma after discovering she was conceived in 1998 when her son was dating Fiona.
Is it just a coincidence or is Steve really Emma’s dad?
Ever since Alexandra joined the show in April 2018 fans have speculated she could be Fiona’s daughter, because the pair are both hairdressers and have similarities.
However, Alexandra has previously insisted the potential plot is “definitely not true”.
She told Lorraine: “I’ve heard the Fiona and Steve’s daughter theory, but that’s definitely not true.”
Alexandra and Angela have spoken about the theory, and found it “quite funny”.
She added: “I did have a little chat and a joke with Angela Griffin about it and that was quite funny.”
Alexandra’s comments came after fans took to Twitter to point out the similarities between Emma and Fiona following Emma’s arrival as David Platt‘s (Jack P. Shepherd) love interest.

One Twitter user wrote: “So how long before we find out that you’re Steve McDonald’s daughter from his brief relationship with the hairdresser? Fiona I think she was called? Great way to get Angela Griffin back. 🙂 (sic)”
Another shared: “I know I said she could be Kelly Crabtree’s daughter, isn’t Emma the right age to be Fiona and Steve’s daughter? #AngelaGriffin @simongregson123 #CoronationStreet (sic)”
One viewer wrote: “#corrie is it me? Or does Emma look like a young Fiona? Xx (sic)”
Since her Corrie exit, Angela has worked steadily in hits such as Holby City, Waterloo Road, Lewis, and Brief Encounters, but she has never ruled out a return to the soap.
In 2014, she told Radiotimes.com: “My idea for a return storyline – if I were to go back – was that I’d have been pregnant by Steve when I left. And I could then return with the child.”
ED! has contacted Coronation Street for comment.
Coronation Street is on Monday and Wednesday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm and Friday at 7.30pm on ITV.
