Four former stars of Brookside reunited on Loose Women earlier today – and welcomed a potential revival of the Liverpudlian soap.
Claire Sweeney (who played Lindsey Corkhill), Louis Emerick (Mick Johnson), Michael Starke (Sinbad) and Sue Jenkins (Jackie Corkhill) all joined the panel to reminisce about their time on the Channel 4 series as part of the ITV show’s ‘soap week’.
And even though they all joked about a comeback for the controversial soap 15 years after it was last seen on TV screens, a new run for Hollyoaks creator Phil Redmond’s telly favourite was not ruled out.
Asked whether Brookside could come back to TV, Louis – who recently appeared in Coronation Street as Liz McDonald’s fancy man Mike Thornberry – replied: “I think so.”

He chuckled: “We’d need to be in bungalows or have stairlifts now!”
Sue chipped in, to laughter from the studio audience: “It’d be good [to do it] before we’re all on Zimmer frames.”
Claire, however, was unsure whether the show would seem as hard-hitting as it did for the two decades it was on telly until 2003.
“The only thing is it was so pioneering with its storylines and so edgy,” she said.
“Nowadays a lot of the soaps are touching on those storylines, so I don’t suppose it would be as shocking any more if it came back.”
Michael agreed – and said he believed it was the right decision to axe it when the series came to an end.
He said: “It was of its time, it really was. When it was finished, it was time to go.”
‘I think it could come back but we’d need to be in bungalows or with stair lifts now!’

But Louis pointed out a reboot would have to be updated, anyway – and the show would benefit from that.
“The city has changed now, after fifteen years,” he said.
“There’s a thousand more stories you can tell.”
“If they bring it back, they should bring a new cast in,” Michael added.
Fans eager to see a new run of the soap on TV were quick to call for a reboot on social media, whatever form the soap may take.
