Coronation Street: 7 funniest characters

Who's the funniest?

| Updated:

Coronation Street has its fair share of hilarious characters, but who are the funniest ever?

Throughout its 60 plus year history it has delighted fans with its trademark humour, cutting comedy lines and hilarious performance.

But who are the funniest Corrie characters?

Blanche's Best Bits 2000 - A Classic Coronation Street SuperbCut

Coronation Street queen Blanche Hunt

There aren’t words to describe how funny Blanche was.

She was cruel, bitter, but always, always funny. Even shooting people down with the most withering insults didn’t get uncomfortable with Blanche.

Actress Maggie Jones could deliver a fatal one liner better than anyone else.

And she created one of the best comedy characters Coronation Street has ever had.

Coronation Street funniest characters: Evelyn Plummer

It’s been a long time since there was a character walking the cobbles who could stand up to Blanche Hunt – but with Evelyn we have found one.

With a caustic wit and very little shame, Evelyn isn’t afraid to tell her truth.

Nor is she afraid to take on anyone who comes at her.

Coronation Street hairdresser David Platt

Whether he’s calling his mother Gail constantly, or hurling olives at her, David Platt has never been one for the serious side of life.

Admittedly he has strayed from the path now and again but mostly he’s a comedy character.

Quick-witted and utterly selfish, David gets his wit from Gail.

And his morals from her many dead husbands.

Shona Platt

Nothing like a traumatic brain injury brought on by a shooting – in a barrel no less – to make somebody a comedy icon.

But that’s what happened to our Shona.

She went from mostly serious mother of a killer, to a woman offence-machine with no filter and a venomous tongue.

Like Blanche – but younger and more ill.

Coronation Street - Rosie Webster Pours A Pint Over Graeme Proctor (16th April 2010 Episode 2)

Rosie Webster

She might not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but Rosie is capable of getting a laugh or two.

Usually it’s at her expense, but she’s mostly in on the joke.

Mostly.

Coronation Street - Eileen Grimshaw's Best Moments

Coronation Street icon: Eileen Grimshaw

The battleaxe who’s armed with a sharp tongue.

Never knowingly bettered in a verbal sparing session, Eileen has got insults and deadpanning down to a fine art.

And her endless war – of mostly words – with Gail Platt has provided some of the best scenes in Corrie history.

Especially when she caught Gail with her mum’s conman prostitute Lewis.

Coronation Street - Gemma's Best Moments

Gemma Winter

While some people don’t find Gemma amusing, there are others who love her.

They find her various facial expressions hilarious, and her humour to be charming and enjoyable.

Nothing says funny like stuffing your face full of pizza and then gawping at everyone else, right?
