Producer of Coronation Street Iain MacLeod has responded to reports Gail Rodwell will return with another new husband.
Gail will return to the cobbles next week and for months viewers have wondered whether Gail will be returning alone, or with husband number six.
Speaking to Digital Spy at a recent Coronation Street press event, Iain was asked what happened to Gail to spark such a change in her outlook.
He said: “Less has happened to her than had originally happened in some versions of the story, where she came back fully meditative and doing yogic flying and the like!
“She’s still the Gail that viewers will recognise, but she’s a little more grounded and more mother earth.”
He continued: “I found the scenes coming up between Gail and Bethany really moving, actually. She’s still the Gail we know and love, but there might be a few more harem pants in her wardrobe and a few more coiffure choices.”
When asked whether Gail has been enjoying a holiday romance, MacLeod responded: “No. There was originally a story on the table where she did, but we moved away from that in the end, just because we don’t want Gail to get together with another serial killer.

“And if we were going to do it, we’d want to do it on screen rather than off screen.
“So no she hasn’t. She’s just zen-like epiphany. But it won’t turn into a pastiche of a hippy lifestyle – she’s still Gail.”
Next week Gail returns home as her granddaughter Bethany is facing backlash from Corrie residents.
She’s still the Gail that viewers will recognise, but she’s a little more grounded and more mother earth.
After sharing a kiss with Daniel Osbourne, who is married to terminally ill Sinead, word spreads and she gets a frosty reception from Sinead’s sister-in-law Tracy Barlow and Sally Metcalfe.

Gail reappears just in time to break up the argument and defend Bethany.
Once she finds out what’s happened, she gives her granddaughter some wise advice – revealing a whole new attitude from her months abroad.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
