Coronation Street fans beg soap to end Geoff and Yasmeen coercive control plot

Some have threatened to switch off over it

Geoff Metcalfe’s coercive control over partner Yasmeen Nazir in Coronation Street reached new heights this week, when they returned from holiday as husband and wife.

On Monday (December 9), the pair returned to the cobbles after a holiday in Las Vegas – and dropped the bombshell news that they’d got married out there.

Understandably fans were horrified by the nuptials, knowing that Geoff has been controlling and emotionally abusing Yasmeen for months.

Now it seems he’ll have even more of a hold on her as they’re married.

Geoff would never get away with this in reality. He’s sloppy and obvious.

Spoilers tells us that his controlling grip on her is set to get tighter and more disturbing, when he will force her to bin all of her favourite clothes and stay indoors cleaning.

Viewers have watched in mute horror as poor Yasmeen has been subjected to both psychological and emotional abuse at the hands of Geoff – and things have been getting progressively worse for the isolated chef.

Fans have begged for Geoff to be killed off, and others demanded he gets exposed.

However, some just don’t find the storyline credible.

One dubious critic said: “Why does no one speak to each other on Corrie? Geoff would never get away with this in reality. He’s sloppy and obvious.”

Another said: “Geoff the master manipulator. Scrapping the barrel much?”

A third, and many others, believe the storyline has dragged on too long, and would have been discovered in real life.

They said: “OMG!! Please stop now Corrie with Geoff and Yasmeen and Emmerdale with Archie and Arthur. They’re good plots. But you just make them go on waaaayyy too long.”

“Can someone tell me, when will Geoff on @itvcorrie get rumbled? He needs to be found out and get his just desserts. Storyline has been going on too long and it’s getting as bad as the Pat Phelan story,” said one more.

There are some who have said they can’t bear to watch.

And others who are threatening to switch off altogether.

The soap has worked closely with charities over the storyline to raise awareness of the horror that victims of coercive control live through.

Teresa Parker, of Women’s Aid, said: “Many people think that unless there is physical abuse, it doesn’t count.

“Coercive control underpins almost all abusive relationships, and Geoff has established himself at the centre of Yasmeen’s life, and manipulated her in so many ways.

“Gradually we are seeing the long-term effects of living with an abusive partner.”
