Fans of Coronation Street shout “Craig David” at Colson Smith and Jack P. Shepherd.

Speaking to Corrie alum Craig Charles on BBC Radio 2, he explained: “The thing about me is, I’m 6 foot 2…

“When we’re together the standard thing is people obviously spot me first ’cause I stand out more.

“They’ll go ‘Craig’, then they’ll see Jack and they go, ‘David!’ And they’ll go, ‘Craig David!’ [laughs]”

David also revealed his best tip for heading out undisturbed as the actor admitted he pretends he’s on a conference call.

He added: “If you sort of want just an easy day or something, there are little things you can do.

“A good one is I have my headphones on, plugged in, and pretend that I’m on the phone when I’m not. I put the phone on silent so it doesn’t ring.”

Meanwhile, Craig – who spent a decade on Corrie until 2015 – shared a story from his time as Lloyd Mullaney on the cobbles when members of the crew would get him confused with Colson’s character.

He told his former co-star: “I had your calls a couple of times. I’d arrive on set at 7.45 in the morning, and they’d say ‘Oh sorry Craig, you’re not in today’.

“I’d say, ‘What do you mean? You gave me my call’. ‘Oh, we got you mixed up with Craig Tinker, the character. I just saw Craig and thought of you.’ ”
