Mary and Alex get dragged into Gary’s web of lies as his troubles worsen in Coronation Street.
Gary takes charge of minding Sarah’s son Harry for the day but when Mary calls on him to repair some damaged guttering he enlists his sister Faye to look after the little boy while he does the job for Mary.
When Sarah ticks off Gary for dumping Harry, he lies to his girlfriend that Peter’s bribe money all went on paying his workers’ wages so he’s still got to graft where he can. Sarah hugs a guilty Gary seeing he’s doing his best.

Meanwhile, Gary continues to ignore loan shark Rick’s phones calls. He finishes Mary’s guttering but lies to her that further repairs are needed as a matter of urgency. She hires the builder but he’s riddled with guilt for conning his neighbour.
When Rick shows up later, he drives Gary to as assisted living complex revealing he expects Gary to con vulnerable old people into taking out high interest loans.
With the loan shark watching, Gary reluctantly knocks on the door of a sweet old lady who, hearing he’s offering loans, ushers him inside.
