Coronation Street’s Gemma Winter will soon be reunited with her mum – and her estranged parent will turn out to be quite the con artist.
Earlier this year, the ITV soap announced that Gemma and Paul’s mum Bernie will be arriving on the cobbles.
Played by Casualty actress Jane Hazlegrove, she’ll be arriving in July and causing trouble for pretty much everybody.

We’re told she’s an old raver who still sees herself as a free spirit, never one to be tied down by a man or responsibilities, especially if it means hard work.
Despite failing as a parent in the past, Bernie arrives to support her daughter through her pregnancy and prove she can be a good mum for once.
Or at least, that’s the idea!

However, according to The Sun, Bernie soon embarks on a scam that involves stealing from her daughter!
Reports say that deceitful Bernie will use her daughter’s pregnancy to make money for herself, by stealing her urine and using it in a scam to flog positive pregnancy tests!
A source told the newspaper: “Bernie hasn’t always been the best mother to Gemma, but she’s determined to prove that she can be now that Gemma’s pregnant.
“She does want to be there for Gemma, but she can’t help herself when she sees a money-making scam opportunity with Gemma being pregnant.”
The insider added: “Bernie doesn’t see anything wrong with using Gemma to make a bit of money – even if it does mean stealing her own daughter’s wee.”
Apparently, Bernie deliberately blocks the toilet in the house so Gemma has no choice but to use a bucket when she needs to go!
W-H-A-T?
Previous spoilers revealed that Bernie will already have upset her daughter by outrageously flirting with her boyfriend Chesney.
Actress Jane, who is best known for her role as paramedic Dixie in BBC’s Casualty, said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Coronation Street.
“It’s where I started my apprenticeship as a very young actor. I can’t wait to get stuck in.”
Jane was last seen in Weatherfield in 1985, when she played Sue Clayton, the daughter of Harry and Connie at No. 11.
A Coronation Street spokesperson said: “Like mother, like daughter.
“We are very pleased that the fantastic Jane Hazlegrove has agreed to join the cast as the irrepressible and impossible Gemma’s even more irrepressible and impossible mother. Fur will fly!”
