Mary Taylor’s world is turned upside down next week when she gets a surprise marriage proposal from a face from her past…
Coronation Street fans will know that Mary has been caught up with the thought of having a romance with builder Jan recently. But after he breaks her heart this week, it seems Mary’s not going to waste any time feeling gloomy.
Next week sees Norris Cole returning to Coronation Street, but while Mary is initially thrilled to see her estranged husband back on the cobbles, the pair are soon at loggerheads when Norris reveals he is now engaged to Freda Burgess.

Mary instantly smells rat and thinks that Freda is after Norris’s money, and Norris is left stunned when Mary tells him that she doesn’t trust Freda and she won’t be granting him a divorce.
However, her views on the matter of divorce soon change when she finds out that someone else wants to marry her!
After digging around in No.3, getting ready to put the house on the market, Freda has come across some letters addressed to Mary amongst Norris’s belongings.
After consulting Rita about the letters, the pair are shocked to realise they’re from Mary’s old flame, Brendan Finch, the editor of supernatural magazine, The Inexplicable.
Coronation Street fans will remember that the pair had a romance a few years back but it all went sour when Brendan’s wife found out what was going on, leaving Mary heartbroken.
But it seems that Norris has been hiding letters from Brendan, who has been writing to Mary to declare his undying love for her.

Mary is stunned when she finds out that Brendan is still in love with her, and is even more shocked to find an engagement ring, along with a proposal, in one of the envelopes.
She’s fuming with Norris for keeping her in the dark over Brendan’s true feelings, and wastes no time in calling her former flame to tell him that she accepts his proposal.
When he doesn’t answer, Mary leaves a voicemail, and is thrilled when the texts back and asks her to meet.
Could this be the start of a new life for Mary as she finds happiness at last?
