Some of Coronation Street’s longest serving stars are being faced with cuts to their wages or they could be given the chop, according to a new report.
The biggest stars of the soap, who are on older contracts, are said to be at the most risk.
The cuts are said to be happening when contract renewals begin this year.
Some of the show’s longest-running actors, including Bill Roache who plays Ken Barlow, are thought to be on us much as £250,000 a year.
An insider claims that changes are being made because some higher paid actors are on screen for less time than the lower paid stars. And the plan is to even things out amongst the cast.
An ITV source told The Sun: “Bosses have made it clear that the older deals are no longer in line with some of the younger stars. In some cases, less-paid actors are on screen a lot more than the others.
“Some of the old guard get massive pay irrespective of how much they actually work.”

However, the gossiper adds that this has been a bit of a shock for some.
They continued: “Obviously this hasn’t gone down particularly well with those hit. But rocking the boat comes with the fear of falling out of favour — and being written out.”
The older stars are believed to be on around £200,000 a year, while some younger cast members receive about £100,000.
Other popular, highly-paid Corrie stars are Helen Worth (Gail Platt) and Simon Gregson (Steve McDonald).

A spokeswoman for Coronation Street said: “We do not comment on staff contracts.”
The shake up could be a bombshell for those who have been on the show for many years, it also comes as the soap approaches its 60th anniversary next year.
