Emma’s father John was diagnosed with stomach cancer and shortly before his death, he told Emma that he loved her as if she were his own.
Wanting to know what he meant, Emma rang her mum who confirmed that John was not her biological father, and Audrey was shocked to learn Emma’s mum was former cobbles resident Fiona Middleton.

After John died Emma was left devastated but furious with her mum for keeping her from the truth her whole life and not coming back to Weatherfield to support her.
Meanwhile Audrey and Steve McDonald’s mum Liz did the maths and realised when Fiona left the cobbles she would’ve been in the very early stages of pregnancy with Emma, meaning Steve was very likely to be her biological dad.
