Robert Preston is set to meet a grisly end in a Weatherfield blood bath in Coronation Street.
The chef, played by Tristan Gemmill, is expected to meet his maker on Christmas Day when he is shot by Derek Milligan, who takes to the Rovers with a gun in a bid to do away with business partner Gary Windass.
A soap source said: “Derek gets drunk and starts waving a gun around the pub.
“There’s a tense stand-off then a massive fight between the two men and two people are shot, including Robert, who dies on Christmas Day.”
But Robert won’t die initially – it is said he will pass away from a heart attack off-screen.

The source added to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: “He makes it to hospital but suffers a heart attack and dies off-screen. It’s left to Michelle to tell everyone he’s dead.”

Tristan recently admitted he is “wary about repetition” on Coronation Street, but the 52-year-old star is delighted with the “great” storylines he has played out as the Bistro owner since 2015.
Speaking in July to The Sun, he said: “I’ve had an awful lot of great stories but I think as an actor you have to be slightly wary about repetition.
“There’s always a time to move on.

“I don’t know what I want to do next. I’m just going to be open to the world and see what happens.
“I think there’s always a time to step away and face the challenges that may lay ahead and that’s where I am at the moment.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
