The factory collapse storyline was unveiled by show boss Iain MacLeod who said a cobbles favourite would meet an untimely end. Carla Connor (Alison King) will initially take the blame for the tragedy, but her business partner Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) may also be responsible.

Details of her death are still under wraps, but initial plans involved her dying on her wedding day to Kate Connor (Fate Brooks).

Bhavna, 34, is said to have wanted to try new roles and when executive producer Iain Macleod joined the show, he had scriptwriters begin work on her dramatic exit.

An ITV source revealed: “She wanted Rana to be killed off as she didn’t like the idea of just splitting them up as it would upset fans of the show.

“The scenes will be heart breaking to watch. Rana will die in Kate’s arms.”
