Coronation Street’s Sinead Tinker has been told the happy news that she is cancer free, after a gruelling few months battling the disease.
And while many fans cried alongside the character as she rang the bell to signal getting the all-clear, some were critical of the storyline.

After last night’s episode (Wednesday 10 April), soap viewers turned to Twitter to express their frustration with the plot, with some even slamming it for being “untrue to real life”.
Emotional scenes showed the young mum return home after battling cervical cancer.
She kept her illness secret for months after fears she would lose her unborn baby, but then managed to have chemotherapy and radiotherapy after having an emergency c-section to deliver baby Bertie.

Now cancer free, Sinead was seen ringing the bell to mark the moment her treatment ended.
She said: “I ring this bell for all to hear, how strong I’ve been despite the fear. I thank those for their support along the way, my treatment’s over, now cancer – please stay away.”
Some fans sobbed alongside Sinead and her husband Daniel, but others felt uneasy with the soap’s treatment of the killer disease.
I’m definitely going to be asking my Oncologist what type of chemo & Radiotherapy Sinead had. Very quick cycles of treatment, no real signs of sickness or hair loss. Just lay on her sofa and slept a bit. I’m changing to that. What a load of rubbish! Not true to life at all.

The Sinead storyline on #corrie is a joke. Not realistic and poorly acted.

One viewer, herself suffering from secondary breast cancer, wrote: “I’m definitely going to be asking my oncologist what type of chemo and radiotherapy Sinead had.
“Very quick cycles of treatment, no real signs of sickness or hair loss. Just lay on her sofa and slept a bit. I’m changing to that. What a load of rubbish! Not true to life at all.”
Another said: “I saw someone ring the bell today in the Rad Dept I’m going to. That moved me. Sinead didn’t… Unrealistic storyline brought to a stupidly abrupt end. Hate it so much.”
A third added: “Was so obvious she’d pull through. Barely any sign of her being ill – apart from looking a bit vacant now and then. All will be forgotten in a month, like her paralysis was. Waste of a storyline.”
Others called the storyline a “joke” and “unrealistic”, with some saying Sinead had received a “miracle cure”.
“Someone needs to get Sinead to see a scientist,” blasted one disbelieving fan. “Broken neck a couple of years ago, likely paralysed for life, recovered! Advanced stage cancer, likely to die, especially as she didn’t have treatment for eight month… survived! Come on #Corrie far fetched even by soap laws.”
However, a spokesperson for Coronation Street insisted the storyline had been handled correctly.
They told us: “We have thoroughly researched both the illness and the treatment.
“Sinead was desperately sick and weak during her chemo and there were scenes of partial hair loss. Every case is different.”
