Sinead Tinker’s worst fears are confirmed in Coronation Street next week when the Underworld machinist is told she is suffering from cervical cancer.
It’s the worst possible new for Sinead who has been hoping and praying that this wasn’t the case.
While Daniel is on cloud nine after being offered a place on his master’s course, which Sinead tells him to accept, she’s destroyed when she’s told she has cancer.
She’s also told she needs to seriously consider terminating her pregnancy so she can begin intensive chemotherapy as quickly as possible.
Sinead breaks down in floods of tears on her way home, unable to cope with the enormity of what she’s been told.
Daniel’s dad, Ken Barlow, is horrified when he calls by the flat later and finds Sinead in tears.
A heartbroken Sinead tells Ken that she’s been diagnosed with cancer and he listens on, stricken.
Will Ken help a terrified Sinead find a way to Daniel about what’s been going on?
This week fans will see Sinead tell her aunt Beth that she will do whatever it takes to keep her baby safe, Beth not knowing her niece is being investigated for cancer.
Actress Katie McGlynn has revealed that Sinead will do whatever it takes to keep her baby alive.
She said: “All the way through it she’s constantly thinking about the baby, even though she’s only around three months pregnant when she finds out that she might have cancer she’s still thinking about the baby.
“When they say to her you’ve got a lump, she says ‘is the baby OK?’. She’s got a maternal instinct straight away, she’s not thinking about herself.”
And Sinead is going to keep her cancer worries away from fiancee Daniel Osbourne.
Katie added: “I think it’s because her worst fear is for Daniel to find out.
If she tells anyone there’s a chance that Daniel will find out and because she doesn’t know the full news herself yet she’s just keeping everything to herself because she can’t risk anyone finding out for his sake.
“She knows it’s going to break his heart.”
She has also convinced herself that it is somehow her fault that she could have cancer.
The actress revealed: “Heartbreak over blaming herself for the cancer because she had a termination – definitely.
“She says to the doctor when she finds out that it might be cancer, ‘I’ve had an abortion is that why?’.
“They assure her that it’s not but she still secretly blames herself because she thinks it is.”
