Danny Hargreaves in Coronation Street was a market trader who caught the eye of Sally Webster – now Sally Metcalfe – and won her over with his caring attitude and cheeky smile.
He and Sally worked together for a while and became romantically involved.
They even got engaged and had a wedding – but their big day didn’t quite go as planned.
As Classic Corrie airs their engagement journey, what was Danny’s story? And where is he now?

Danny’s arrival in Corrie
Danny was a market trader and Sally was too, for a while. Danny was quite taken with Sally, who was still licking her wounds after her second break up from former husband Kevin Webster, and her abusive affair with Greg Kelly.
Sally wasn’t keen on getting to know Danny better but when she was being harassed by another market trader, Danny stepped in and defended her and she was won over.
And when her van was torched by evil Greg, Danny supported her again.
Kevin was unfairly annoyed by Danny’s interest in Sally. He also didn’t like him getting to know their daughters Rosie and Sophie.
But Sal was determined she and Danny were just friends – much to Danny’s disappointment!
Romance blossoms
However, it was clear to just about everyone except Sal, Kev and poor Danny, that the Websters still had feelings for one another.
In fact, when Kevin and his pregnant girlfriend Alison Wakefield got engaged, Sally struggled. She and Kevin ended up sleeping together the night before his wedding.
It was Kev’s romance with Alison, that really persuaded Sally she should make a go of it with Danny. He was delighted when they went on a date together and soon romance was blossoming.
Did Sally marry Danny Hargreaves?
Danny and Sally got along so well that they went into business together, opening a shop called D&S Hardware, which was where the kebab shop is now.
Danny – still smitten with Sal – proposed and Sally accepted. They excitedly planned their wedding together, but Sally was feeling bad about keeping her secret night with Kevin quiet from her fiancé.
She eventually confessed all to Danny, and he did not take it well!
He jilted poor Sal on their wedding day and left the Street forever.
Who played Danny Hargreaves?
Danny was played by actor Richard Standing.
He was already an established actor when he landed the role of Danny, having appeared in The Grand and other TV shows.
After leaving Corrie, he went on to appear in Doctors, as Father David Quinn. He also appeared in Grange Hill, Holby City, and Silent Witness.
What’s Richard doing now?
Richard is still acting, though he’s turned his attention to the stage. Most recently, he and his real-life wife Sara Poyzer have been touring in a production of Mamma Mia, playing Sam Carmichael and Donna Sheridan.
He and Sara have two grown up sons, and keep fit, with Richard posting pics of their outdoor adventures on his Instagram account.

A return to Corrie seems unlikely given Sally never really loved him and is (mostly) happily married to Tim now!
