The full soap schedules for the end of December were unveiled on Tuesday (4 December) and we couldn’t help notice that there’s going to be a rare battle of the ratings on Tuesday 1 January.
EastEnders and Coronation Street will go head-to-head with hour-long episodes at 8pm.
While we all know you can catch up with any missed episodes later on in the evening, or the next day, it’s never the same when everyone has already watched it before you!

New Year’s Day is historically known for being one of the most dramatic episodes of the year in Albert Square…
Remember Mick Carter getting shot earlier this year, or the shocking deaths of Roxy and Ronnie Mitchell the year before? A double death that many fans still haven’t got over.
Corrie’s storylines tend to be less dramatic, however. This year’s New Year’s Day episode focused heavily on Daniel Osbourne’s plot to bring down Chesney Brown.
The year before, fans were in tears when Mary Brown decided not to leave Weatherfield for Africa when she had second thoughts about leaving the Street – and Norris Cole.
This year, EastEnders has already promised us an explosive reveal in the Slater household, while Hannah Spearritt returns as Kandice Taylor.
Corrie, meanwhile, sees Liz McDonald being targeted in a hit-and-run and Jenny Connor suffer a scary collapse.
So who will win the battle of the soaps?
Who will you choose?
