Soap actor Danny Walters, who plays Keanu Taylor, has apologised after a series of historic homophobic tweets were unearthed.

The EastEnders star, 25, posted a series of tweets containing offensive ‘f’ words back in 2012 when he was 19 years old.

The tweets included him writing to one follower: “Also you owe me £5 you [bleep].”

And another: “you little [bleep].”

The tweets were published several years before he landed his break-out acting role of Tiger Dyke in ITV’s Benidorm.

Apologising for the homophobic remarks he told The Sun: “I am very sorry for posting these immature comments to a friend when I was 19 years old.

“It’s not language I would ever use now and I’d like to apologise to anyone I’ve offended.”

A friend added in the same interview that Danny didn’t have a bad bone in him: “Danny is feeling absolutely mortified that something he posted when he was younger has come back to bite him.

“He doesn’t have a bad bone in him.”

Danny has been playing Keanu on EastEnders since 2017, and he picked up the National Television Award for Best Newcomer the following year.

The actor, who is in a serious relationship with his girlfriend Lily Smith, has gained a bit of reputation as a soap heartthrob.

And he’s even posed on the cover of Gay Time twice in his underwear.

These unearthed tweets come just a week after Emmerdale actress Shila Iqbal was fired from the soap for a series of racist tweets.

The actress, who plays Aiesha Richards on the ITV soap, had posted several racist tweets in 2013, when she was 19.

In one tweet she used the N-word and in another the word “gay” as an insult. She went on to publicly apologise for her “inappropriate language”.
