EastEnders has denied actress Danniella Westbrook is returning as Sam Mitchell after she claimed she was ‘in talks’ to make a comeback.
Danniella played the role of Sam on and off from 1990 until 2016 and has recently expressed she would like to return.
In a recent interview with the Daily Star, the actress said she would go back to the soap.
She told the publication: “I think I will go back. Someone is talking to me at the minute about a return.

“It’s my 30 year anniversary since the day I joined the show. I’m a different person today, a very different person.”
Whilst Danniella has got her life back on track in recent years, it looks like she may not be returning to EastEnders for a while.
A representative for EastEnders told Entertainment Daily “there are no plans for the character of Sam Mitchell to return”.

However, Danniella opened up to the Daily Star about what Sam’s comeback could bring to Albert Square.
She said: “I think the show is missing people to play a matriarch. When I joined there was Pauline, Pat, Peggy – all them older characters.”
Danniella said Sharon Mitchell has “only got so many people to play against now”.
She added that “Sam hates Sharon” so it would bring drama to the soap.
Daniella also said that she “wants to go back to work”.

Danniella first played Sam from 1990 until 2000.
Sam then returned in 2002 but was played by another actress, Kim Medcalf. Kim played Sam until 2005 when the character departed once again.
But in 2009, Sam returned once again played by original actress Danniella. Her final appearance was in 2016 when Sam came back to Walford with her son Ricky for Peggy’s funeral.
However, Sam left her son Ricky with his dad, Jack, before leaving in a taxi.
