EastEnders explains why Ben’s glasses are missing

Viewers were wondering what happened to his specs

| Updated:

Ben Mitchell made his long-awaited return in Monday night’s episode (April 1) of EastEnders alongside Lola Pearce and their daughter Lexi.

And, never mind he’s come back with a completely different head and body, viewers were fixated on a couple of smaller details…

Right at the end of the episode, Phil walked into the Mitchells’ front room to see his son. Although Ben was only on screen for a few seconds before the duff duff, eagle-eyed fans noted some other changes.

They pointed out that Ben’s glasses were gone and he no longer appeared to have a hearing aid.

However, EastEnders explained in last night’s (April 2) episode just what happened to his glasses.

Ben said: “Feeling happy to see my family.”

His friend Jay turned around and joked to him: “Surprised you can see your family without your glasses on.”

Ben hit back with “Contacts, you idiot.”

As for the hearing aid, you can now get smaller/invisible hearing aids which could explain why there is one no longer visible.

Earlier this year it was announced that former Waterloo Road star Max Bowden would be taking over the role of Ben from previous actor Harry Reid.

It was also revealed that he would be returning with his daughter Lexi and her mother Lola.

After the release of the spring trailer last month, it became apparent that Ben and Lola are hiding something when Lola turned to Ben and said, “I can’t do this, I thought I could, but being back here and lying to everyone like this…”

Ben was last seen on screen in January 2018, when he was fleeing to France after stealing money from Phil and the heist gang.

Lola was last seen on screen in 2015. She left Albert Square for a new life with her daughter but left behind boyfriend Jay.

EastEnders is on Mondays and Fridays at 8pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm.
