EastEnders fans divided over show’s use of music editing

It's not the Square's usual style

It seems EastEnders wanted to try something new last night and started to use music to heighten the drama of certain scenes.

But fans were divided over the format change – with some saying it was a really nice touch, and others accusing the show of trying to be like Hollyoaks.

When Mick Carter had another panic attack, The XX’s Angels played in the background, as the lights were flashing and Mick passed out, falling off a ladder.

Linda ran in and shouted for someone to call an ambulance, while Stuart followed and calmly talked Mick through the attack, bringing him out the other side.

Later on, when Bailey was up on the roof having received a telescope as a present from her family, a moving song played over the top.

Fans were divided over whether EastEnders should be using music in this way though.

Some said it ruined the otherwise brilliant episode – and that the show was trying to be Hollyoaks.

Others felt the music was a great fit and said it gave the show a real cinematic feel.

They said it was a “nice change” and they ‘loved’ it.

Last night also saw Mel Owen learn her son Hunter has escaped from prison – something which is set to kick off a dramatic chain of events over the next few weeks.

EastEnders is on Monday and Friday at 8pm and Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
