But some aren’t happy that while Sean is returning his beloved ex-wife, Roxy Mitchell, is dead.

An ED! reader commented: “No he can’t come back, his Roxy is gone 😢”
And many on Twitter agreed with the sentiment, suggesting they felt “robbed” because there would be no reunion.

Sean Slater returning to EastEnders is the best thing to happen to Walford since Tamwar and Nancy opened a pop up restaurant in the launderette imo. Such a good character, I always wanted him back with Roxy, wish she was still alive for it.

Great news! Would be good if Tanya came back at the same time too – he really loved her at one point. Shame Roxy isn't around though… they had unfinished business. I just hope they don't get Sean and Ruby together again (It was rubbish!) #eastenders

Sean’s return was announced by the soap on Thursday (January 17) as the show revealed he will be back in the spring for a short stint after 10 years away.
Speaking of his comeback, Rob said: “This year marked ten years since Sean fled from Walford after plunging into a frozen lake. A decade since I left the studio at Elstree and Sean Slater behind to move to the USA to chase a dream that seemed so farfetched.
“Throughout my career I have always felt that my best work was on EastEnders as Sean Slater, that there was something there in him that I understood completely, something traumatic, something that we never really got to show the viewers.”
He continued: “I have unfinished business in Albert Square and am thrilled to be returning to what I still consider to be my home, however briefly.
“EastEnders is still the most important serial on British Television, never afraid to combat hard storylines and tell hard truths, I have always been proud of what EastEnders has done for social awareness throughout my lifetime and that is why I’m back. To tell a story that means something to me with the family that I know can tell it right.
“I can’t wait to see my Slaters again and see what’s in store for Sean as he brings an evolved animal to Albert Square.”

It’s been heavily speculated Sean’s return will have something to do with Jean’s mental health struggle, which was one of the things show boss Kate Oates revealed in an interview posted to the soap’s Twitter page.
“She’s going to have a challenge coming her way where we look at her mental health through the lens of her physical health,” she said.
