EastEnders legend Ross Kemp could be on his way back to the soap as Grant Mitchell after scenes last night saw Phil make a mystery phone call (Thursday October 7)
It comes after the actor teased his return to the soap last month.
Ross last appeared as the gangster in the BBC soap in 2016.
Phil needs help in EastEnders
Grant’s brother Phil has found himself under increasing pressure of late.
Police officer DCI Keeble is determined to punish the Mitchells for the death of her father. She has Phil on a ledge – enough evidence to send him down unless he informs on his old mates.
Billy Mitchell is facing jail and Phil is powerless to help him. He’s trying to play Keeble until he can find something to bring her down.
Last night saw Phil’s club, Peggy’s, attacked by Jonah, who was then arrested. Kat believed it was all over and they could return to normal life.
But Phil had news for her.
“I can’t just sit here and do nothing,” he told her, before revealing he was leaving “for as long as it takes”.
“When I get back everything will be sorted. I promise you that,” he said.
Phil’s mystery phone call to Grant?
As Phil drove out of Walford, he pulled the car over and made a phone call.
“It’s me, I need your help,” he told the recipient.
Was did he phone?
Nothing has been confirmed, but who else could it be other than the great Grant Mitchell?
Fans were sure too and quick to predict a Christmas return for the Mitchell brothers.
“Wonder who Phil was calling? Don’t want to get my hopes up, but could we be getting a Grant guest stint, maybe?” said one.
“SPOILER: Grant Mitchell SET for CHRISTMAS RETURN,” mused another.
A third said: “There’s NO Official confirmation of this (YET), But, I suppose it is a NO BRAINER!!! Grant Mitchell finally RETURNS to Walford!!!”
“Phil on the phone at the end. Was definitely to Grant… I’m wondering if when Phil comes back to the square Grant will follow him,” added another.
Someone else said: “I’m gonna call it here: Phil and Grant will return this Christmas.”
Ross Kemp teases Grant Mitchell EastEnders return
Grant returned for mum Peggy’s death in May 2016, and discovered he was the biological father of Mark Fowler Jr.
He left with daughter Courtney to rebuild the Mitchell empire abroad and hasn’t been seen since.
However with the recent flashback episode dealt with Grant and brother Phil’s childhood and Ross was asked about whether he would return.
“You never say never,” he told The Big Breakfast in September.
“It’s either that or pantomime, or maybe both!”
Asked about any fond memories he had of his time on the soap, he admitted he didn’t have any – but not because he didn’t enjoy it.
“You’re paddling quite quickly,” Ross explained.
“It was not working down a coal mine or dealing with really really heavy stuff, but you’re there for long days.
“It was fun honestly, and it was a great time to be in the soap.”
EastEnders usually airs weeknights at 7.30pm on BBC One.
