But when a fan said she was sad he “had to go back to soaps” he was defended by another who said she was glad he hadn’t turned his back on his roots.
Replying to both fans on Twitter, he said: “This perspective is one of the reasons I wanted to.

“It’s privilege to be on something this special, even if just for a moment. Stop looking down on it.”
The critical fan then told Rob she just wanted him to be able to “crack Hollywood” before returning and he once again took the time to defend himself and the show.

“I hope people can see that there’s really no difference.
“People look down their noses at these things and I’m trying to show that you don’t have to.”
The actor has starred in a host of American shows and movies since leaving the UK to crack Hollywood.
