Last night EastEnders viewers saw the return of Lofty Hollyoway and Walford’s original wild child Mary Smith.
Lofty, played by Tom Watt, has been away from Walford for just over 30 years but he returned last night to pay his respects to Doctor Legg who passed away recently after his battle with cancer.
When Lofty was in The Queen Vic, he saw Martin Fowler and left him stunned when he handed over a cheque for £20,000 for him to give to Vicki for “old times’ sake”.

Lofty used to work as a barman at the Queen Vic. He was hopelessly in love with Michelle, who dumped him at the altar.
He agreed to marry her again after she had Dirty Den’s illegitimate child… Vicki.
No one knew who Vicki’s father was for almost half a year until it was revealed to be her best friend Sharon Watts’ (now Mitchell) adoptive father.
Lofty wanted to formally adopt Vicki but Michelle kept putting him off. Michelle then found out she was pregnant with Lofty’s baby but coerced Den into paying for her abortion.
Eventually Lofty and Michelle’s marriage broke down and he left the square in 1988.
EastEnders is on Monday and Friday at 8pm and Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
