Emmerdale and Coronation Street will be returning to six episodes a week as of Monday September 14.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the soaps had to halt production. This meant that ITV made the decision to reduce Emmerdale and Corrie episodes to three a week.
However with production back on track, the soaps can now return to six episodes a week.

Here’s what Entertainment Daily soap writer Charlotte Rodrigues thinks of the decision to return to six a week.
Emmerdale and Coronation Street – returning to six episodes a week
I have been a huge fan of both Emmerdale and Coronation Street since I was young.
Not only do soaps provide escapism but they also educate people on important matters. For example, I had never heard of mitochondrial disease before Coronation Street’s storyline with Oliver Battersby.
When it was first announced episodes were being cut I of course, like many other fans, was saddened. However I understood ITV’s reason behind it and believe it was the correct decision, otherwise we would have run out of episodes.
During the first few weeks of having three episodes a week, the soaps felt they were running at a much slower pace. Again though, that is understandable given episodes had halved.
But with the soaps going back to six episodes a week, I now worry it will feel as if it’s too much. But that doesn’t mean to say I’m not excited.
I’m looking forward to the shows picking up again and having more content for viewers to sink their teeth into.

Upcoming Coronation Street and Emmerdale stories
The main storyline I’m looking forward to seeing a conclusion to is Geoff and Yasmeen. People are starting to see his true colours and hopefully this is the start of his downfall.
Meanwhile in Emmerdale I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want Jamie to get caught out for Moira’s hit and run.
He’s acting so spoilt and honestly deserves to go to prison. And Belle can do so much better!
