Debbie ordered shady Simon McMahon to wipe the smile off Joe Tate (RIP) back in February after he revealed he was not Tom Waterhouse as he’d led her to believe, but Joseph Tate, Charity Dingle’s former step-son.

Joe had romanced Debbie but only to get his own back on Charity who he blamed for killing his dad.

But instead of just beating Joe up, unknown to Debbie, Simon decided to use acid.

In a cruel twist it was Ross who ended up being scarred for life after he stole Joe’s car.

Debbie’s name had been kept out of it when Simon was arrested but last week Ross forced a confession out of him.

And sure enough the police arrived and arrested Debbie, just as she’d been left devastated by Joe disappearing on their wedding day.

As the week begins, the mum-of-two finds herself worrying about her future as she faces the stark reality.

She’s relieved when she’s released on bail but is horrified when her brief tells her that she could be facing five years in prison if she’s found guilty at trial.

Devastated, Debbie breaks down in tears at the news. What will happen to her and her kids if she goes to prison?

It’s a stark contrast to a week ago when Debbie was preparing to marry Joe in the hospital chapel.

The loved-up pair planned to marry so Debbie’s daughter Sarah – who is waiting for a heart transplant – could watch them.

But Debbie was left heart broken when Joe failed to turn up.

Unknown to Debbie Joe has been killed by his former friend Graham Foster, on the orders of Kim Tate.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
