Matty Barton faces a huge, life-changing week in Emmerdale next week when he undergoes surgery in the next stage of his transition.
Ever since coming back to the village, Matty – who was formerly known as Hannah Barton – has been waiting for the chance to have this life-changing operation, and now the time has finally come.
Matty made the huge decision to get his name on the surgery waiting list at the start of the year after he was brutally attacked by ex boyfriend Isaac Nuttall and his friends.
Feeling down after the attack, Matty decided he needed to learn how to defend himself and started a tough training routine… only for him to push himself too far and collapse.

Realising that surgery would help him move on with his life, Matty booked himself an appointment, but as the date of his surgery gets closer, Matty can’t hide his worries about what lies ahead.
Thankfully Victoria is on hand to take his mind off things and the pair down beers the night before Matty’s appointment with the consultant, leaving Moira feeling left out.
At the hospital the next day, Moira does most of the talking and leaves Matty fuming that she’s taking over.
He tells her that he doesn’t want her at the hospital when he goes in for the operation the following day, leaving his mum heartbroken but hopeful that he will change his mind.
The next day Matty struggles to hide his fears as he gets ready for the operation, knowing that in the next few hours his life is about to change forever.
Moria can’t cope as he is wheeled into theatre and lashes out at Victoria, delivering her a few home truths.

But it soon becomes clear that Moira doesn’t mean what she is saying and confesses to Victoria that the risk of losing Matty has brought back painful memories of Holly’s death.
The pair eventually bond over their shared love for Matty, but just when it seems peace has finally been restored they see a nurse racing towards the theatre that he’s being operated in.
What has happened to Matty that means he needs extra medical attention?
Is Moira about to lose yet another child?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
