It seems David Metcalfe and Jacob Gallagher might finally be thawing towards one another in next week’s Emmerdale when they find themselves united after Pollard’s health takes a turn for the worst.
The father and son duo have been at loggerheads since Maya Stepney’s manipulation of Jacob began months ago but, since she recently went to jail for grooming Jacob, the teenager has hardly been able to look his adoptive dad in the eye.
Jacob blames David for everything that has happened and is still hoodwinked by Maya’s twisted charm, while David has desperately been trying to get his boy to see that he’s not the bad guy in this situation.

This week sees David come up with a plan to befriend Jacob by posing as another gamer online, thinking that if he won’t open up to his dad, maybe he would talk to a friend.
But, of course, Jacob’s not daft and works out pretty quickly what his dad is up to, and next week sees the teenager lure David and Leyla to the cafe when he tricks them with a message to his online account.
It’s not long before David is forced to confess that the fake account is him, and Jacob feels totally betrayed by his parents.
But as Pollard steps in to defuse the argument, he becomes breathless and starts to feel faint, leaving everyone worried about him.
David and Jacob are united in their panic for Pollard, and the following day they agree to keep their differences from Pollard, not wanting to stress him out any more than they already have.
David is encouraged by Jacob’s loyalty towards his grandad, and becomes convinced this is a huge step forward in building bridges in their family.

Leyla is also shocked to see the pair getting on at last, and comes up with a plan to make sure they never fight again.
But what has she got up her sleeve? And will it work?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
