He captioned the post: “Words cannot begin to describe how proud I feel today. My girlfriend graduated with a masters degree!
“She’s worked so hard this past year and has done so much to get here and I’m so so proud of everything she’s achieved!
“I love you so much Sophie, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for your career.
“You’re going to do some incredible things, and I’m lucky enough to be with you every step of the way.”
Friends and fans rushed to comment.
Ash Palmisciano, who plays Matty Barton in the ITV soap, commented a red heart and fist bump emoji.
Emma Atkins, who plays Ryan’s on-screen mother Charity Dingle, commented: “WONDERFUL INCREDIBLE AMAZING.”
James joined the cast of the soap last year as Charity’s long-lost son Ryan, who she presumed died at birth.
When she was 14, Charity had been thrown out by her father Obadiah shortly after giving birth to her first child, Debbie Dingle.
Debbie was cared for by a family friend but Charity struggled with this and her father Obadiah threw her out.

A homeless Charity was then held in police officer Mark Bails’ flat for months and he, along with his friends, raped her.
When she found out she was pregnant, she drank alcohol in attempt to end the pregnancy, but stopped when she felt her baby kick for the first time.

Eventually she escaped the flat and a couple of weeks later she gave birth to her son Ryan.
However, after she gave birth she thought she saw Ryan die and ran away from the hospital, blaming herself.
It turned out Ryan had survived and was adopted by midwife Irene Stocks.

After Ryan and Charity reunited, the pair got off to a rough start, but now he often visits the village to see his family.
Recently Ryan got on the wrong side of Kim Tate when he threatened to go to the press about the lack of disability access at her new outdoor centre.
When he spoke out at a press event, Kim’s business partner Al covered and said Ryan was working with them to help improve the access issues.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
