Lucy Benjamin has spoken about her dramatic return to EastEnders, admitting she is “excited” to get back to Albert Square.

Lucy, 48, last appeared in the BBC One soap in 2017 but is set to make a big comeback after her character Lisa discovers she is going to become a grandmother.

Lisa’s daughter, Louise Mitchell, is expecting a baby with Keanu Taylor and this week viewers will see the teenager decide against having an abortion.

Speaking about her return to Walford, Lucy has described the feeling as “going home”.

The actress told The Mirror she “couldn’t be more excited”, adding: “Going back to EastEnders feels like going home.

“I love and adore playing Lisa, and am looking forward to seeing what’s in store for her this time.”

Lucy joined EastEnders in 1998, before her character dramatically fled to Spain in 2003.

Two years before her departure, the nation was gripped by the ‘Who Shot Phil’ storyline, after Lisa shot her ex Phil Mitchell (played by Steve McFadden).

A whopping 19.8 million viewers tuned in to find out that she was the one who had pulled the trigger.

Lucy reprised her role as Lisa in 2017 for a fleeting two-week appearance, but she has not returned to Albert Square since then.

She previously admitted: “It’s lovely with Lisa because I can pick her up and leave her alone – I know that character inside out.

“It’s always a delight to go back and play her I have to say.”
