Award-winning Coronation Street actress Lucy Fallon has revealed her fear after making the decision to quit the show next year.
The talented actress said leaving is scary but she is looking forward to embracing new challenges.
In a Sunday Mirror exclusive, Lucy said she hoped to follow in the footsteps of Corrie’s luminaries Suranne Jones and Katherine Kelly.
Suranne Jones, 40, has risen the ranks to be one of the UK’s most in-demand actresses – collecting Baftas for her winning performance in Dr Foster and is now winning plaudits for her current role in Gentleman Jack.
Lucy admits she has watched her career develop and hopes after she finishes playing Bethany Platt, she can achieve similar success.
“I don’t know what I want to do after the show,” says Lucy.
“People like Suranne Jones have gone off to do amazing things so that’s the dream.
“I’d like to stay on TV but I am under no illusions about what might happen. It’s exciting that is even a possibility for me.”
The 23-year-old was cast as Sarah Platt’s teenage daughter four years ago and has been plunged into some hard-hitting storylines making a huge splash.
As a rebellious teen, Bethany was expelled from school before becoming embroiled with a violent drug dealer.
She then was groomed and sexually abused by a gang of older men.
Her performance in such serious storylines earned her four awards including a National Television Award in 2018.
But even though she’s talented, Lucy said she is worried about leaving the safety of Weatherfield.
“Corrie is all I know,” she explained.
“So it’s scary but it’s also exciting to think about what comes next. It’s so far away so I haven’t even thought about it yet and then when I do I’m like argh!!”
Citing her on-screen family of Sarah, played by Tina O’Brien, David – Jack P Shepherd, Gail – Helen Worth, and Audrey – Sue Nicholls as whom she will miss the most, she said she hopes to one day return.
