On Loose Women today (Wednesday, October 25), Matthew Wolfenden revealed how he broke down in tears over a death in the family.
The Emmerdale actor shared the devastating news during an interview today.
He revealed that a beloved family member had sadly passed away recently, leaving him emotional.
Matthew Wolfenden opens up on emotional family death
Today, Matthew Wolfenden sat down with the Loose Women to talk about his upcoming role as Buddy in Elf the Musical.
He also spoke about his exit from the Dales as he departs Emmerdale to take to the stage.
After this, Colleen Nolan shared the sad news that her pet pigmy goat, Dave, had passed away, prompting Matthew to open up about his own family loss.
Matthew revealed that his pet hamster had died after he’d got home from his last day at Emmerdale.
He said: “I went to feed my little boy Bowie’s hamster, and he was asleep, and my little boy’s hamster died.”
He then got emotional and shared: “I just sobbed. I was in the garden on my knees in the rain burying this hamster with a spoon.”
However, after breaking the news to his son, Matthew then revealed that his son got a new hamster to fill the void.
Matthew Wolfenden set to leave Emmerdale
David Metcalfe actor Matthew has revealed that he finished filming his final scenes at Emmerdale two weeks ago.
He decided that he wanted to get back on stage and perform in front of an audience again.
Whilst Matthew confirmed that David isn’t going to die, he previously admitted that David’s exit storyline will have something to do with Victoria.
On This Morning, he confessed: “Victoria is the reason why he leaves the village.”
Currently, Victoria and Jacob have feelings for each other but things are messy as David’s heart still belongs to Vic.
But, will this new romance between David’s ex and son cause him to leave the village?

Emmerdale usually airs on weekdays at 7.30pm, with an hour long episode on Thursdays.
